Monsters of Folk – comprised of Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James and singer/songwriter M.Ward – will be releasing their first collaborative album on September 22nd. Although these critically acclaimed artists have shared the stage before, this album marks their first recorded output as a band.
Tickets are on sale for the supergroup’s Bay Area performance on October 17 at The Fox Theater in Oakland. Though I’m not sure how smart it was to schedule a performance during The Treasure Island Festival.
And so the age of imagination begins. While it may look like my boy is seriously lacking in table manners, he’s actually pretending to be a kitty-cat. Kitty-cat Judah to be exact. He mews, crawls around on all fours, likes to be petted and – most importantly – insists on being served a bowl of milk. Preferably, he’d be drinking from the bowl off the floor, but we had to draw the line somewhere. So here he is lapping up the leftover milk from his cereal bowl. I try not to get too disturbed by these episodes and instead focus on the positive aspects – like his creativity and commitment to character. Who knows, maybe he’ll be a respected character actor like Philip Seymour Hoffman one day.
Scheduled for release on February 17, the new album features guest appearances by Lucinda Williams,Zooey Deschanel (She & Him), Rachel Blumberg (The Decemberists) and others. Though it mostly features all-new songs, Hold Time includes a handful of cover tunes, including Don Gibson’s “Oh Lonesome Me” and “Rave On,” made popular by Buddy Holly.
Singer-songwriter and modern-day troubadour M. Ward will release his new album, Hold Time, February 17 on Merge Records. This is the follow up album to his acclaimed solo Post-War effort and She and HimVolume 1 collaboration with Zooey Deschanel. His new release is reported to feature guest performances by Lucinda Williams, Jason Lytle (ex Grandaddy) and side project band-mate Zooey. The video for the track ‘Hold Time‘ was just released today. And if that’s not enough, the busy little bee has also announced plans to hit the road this winter to support the album. Whew!
