One of my favorite UK singer/songwriter discoveries will be making his debut tour here in the US, kicking it off with some SXSW dates. He’ll be hitting San Francisco’s The Independent on May 8 supporting The Jezebels.

Seems like no American celebrity can resist the lure of hawking Japanese products when the price is right. Even James Brown. Loved this footage of “The Godfather of Soul” pimping Miso soup to “Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine”. One can only imagine the Lost in Translation like scenes of JB trying to dissect the tonalities of the Japanese language. Misoba? Misoba. Misoba!
File under: Obsession. My love affair continues for New Mexico and their eponymous debut EP that is so. friggin. good. Here’s a new video for the track “Motion Sickness”.
Goodness. NME premiered this video for the Klaxons upcoming album “Surfing the Void” due out January 18th. The incredibly provocative and compelling video was directed by Saam Farahmand. Let’s see how long this lasts on YouTube. Enjoy but just don’t watch it at work.
One can become a bit jaded burning through as much music as I do, flippantly classifying bands into the latest trend du jour… electro pop, chill wave, nu wave, shitgaze. So I always pause and take note of an artist with a unique and distinctive sound. That happened the first time I laid ears on this duo calling themselves Buke & Gass. I’m endlessly intrigued by their clattering noise. I mean they make their own instruments! This is the video for the track “Page Break” off their album Riposte.
My penchant for Brit rock never wanes. The Joy Formidable released this video for their new single “I Don’t Want to See You Like This” off their upcoming 7″ due to release October 11.
Sweet bejesus, I can’t wait to see these guys at The Independent December 13. Whoo hoo! One of my favorite albums of 2010, hands down. Here’s the new video for ‘Lucidity’.
Wow, I was introduced to Simon Says No!, an Oslo-based shoegaze 3 piece, at a @FutureSounds Rumble more than a year ago. They blew my mind (and my eardrums) then with their EP Ahoy de Angst. Now, finally, their getting ready to release their new album September 13 in Scandinavia. “Solitary Rush” is their new single and I’m still in shock after seeing this video. They’re just all polished up and ready for success. Check it out.
5 Reasons Why Caribou Rules
- Daniel Snaith. He’s a genius and a drummer.
- It’s REAL electronic music made with musicians, not machines.
- Drummer Brad Weber is badass.
- Drums, drums and more drums.
- Their proclivity for minor keys, dual drumming and off beat cymbal patterns.
I love you, Caribou.
Another amazing up and coming band from So Cal.
