You Need Free Weed

FreeWeed04

Artist: Free Weed
Album: Introducing
Label: Bad Diet
Release Date: Feb 24, 2015
RIYL: Stoner Pop, The Memories, White Fang
Featured Track: “Later”

You need Free Weed, yes you do. The band, silly!!

Rikky Gage, the ringleader of beloved acts like The Memories, White Fang and Gnar Tapes is up to his (endearing) shenanigans again with a new music act called Free Weed, which – by the way – is excellent positioning and branding for the booming “green rush” era. As a devoted fan of The Memories, I squealed with delight when this track landed in my inbox. After giving the album a spin, I’m hooked. Stoner generation: meet your new ambassador. For a good time, go see a live show. Trust me on this.

Bear Hands – “Bullshit Saviour Complex”

Artist: Bear Hands
Album: Songs From Utopia
Released: July 4, 2012
Hails From: Brooklyn
Featured Track: “Part II Bullshit Saviour Complex”

You know when you have a live moment with a band that forever seals your music destiny with them? I had that in 2010 with Bear Hands at SXSW. The upstart band making their way through the scene. I will always have fond memories of that show, the people I was with, the good times we were having. Very happy to be diving into the follow up to “Burning Bush Supper Club” from Brooklyn-based group. You’ll always have a place in my heart!

Digital Leather – Yes, Please. Thank You.

Artist: Digital Leather
Album: Yes, Please. Thank You.
Release Date: July 25, 2012
Hails From:
Featured Track: “Mountains Are Dreaming”

This is the next album I’m going to indoctrinate on my little boy just so I can hear him say the album title. A voluntary please and thank you now and then would be mighty nice. Plus I simply love these guys and their fuzzed out garage rock vibe. Fun fact: so did the late Jay Reatard. So much so that he became the band’s manager. Fast on the heels of their February 2012 release of Modern Problems, ‘Yes, Please. Thank You’ is due out July 25. Mind your manners.

You Me & Us – Paperweights

Artist: YouMeAndUs
Album: Paperweights
Hails From: So Cal

Proof that there really is more music in this world than one human can discover, check out this band landed in my SoundCloud inbox this week. You Me & Us is a So Cal two piece that have been kicking around for about a year and yet I’m just hearing them for the first time. While this album was released last year, I love their sound and look forward to hearing more.
