Rikky Gage, the ringleader of beloved acts like The Memories, White Fang and Gnar Tapes is up to his (endearing) shenanigans again with a new music act called Free Weed, which – by the way – is excellent positioning and branding for the booming “green rush” era. As a devoted fan of The Memories, I squealed with delight when this track landed in my inbox. After giving the album a spin, I’m hooked. Stoner generation: meet your new ambassador. For a good time, go see a live show. Trust me on this.

Burger Records never lets me down with their finely curated selection of artists and releases. Portland-based The Memories are no exception. Their debut album is AWESOME. Super mellow, fuzzed out and dreamy, the group self recorded the tracks in the upstairs bedroom of their shared home. Cheeky track titles like, “Cowboys Don’t Get High,” “Took Drugs (Went Insane),” make it all that more endearing. Fans of White Fang and The Feelies, you’re gonna like this.
