Tame Impala – “Lucidity (Pilooski Remix)

Rarely do I get excited over remixes, but the Tame Impala versions are categorically good. This one from Pilooski is no exception, just adding the the psychedelic Beatles-esque flavor of the group. Innerspeaker is one of my favorite albums this year. Get it if you don’t have it yet.  And for the local SF crew, the band is coming back to the US so be sure to get tickets to their show at The Independent on December 13.

The Power of Ten: 10 Albums for 10/10/10

It’s 10:10 AM on 10/10/10. A perfect 10. These tri-numeral dates come around once a year and this year it falls on the number 10. Is it an auspicious day or a bunch of hullaballoo? There is a certain completeness of order with the number 10. For the Chinese the number is lucky, representing perfection or completion. We’re born with 10 fingers and 10 toes after all. Perfect beauty is measured on its scale. Top 10 lists are ubiquitous. And any respectable album contains at least 10 songs.

If you’re technologically-inclined, today is a “binary” day. The ones-and-zeros representing the binary code or the mathematical language “spoken” by computers to create all things digital. Converting the date 10/10/10 to binary code gives us 101010. And in the binary counting system, that number translates to 42, which means…absolutely nothing.

But hey, it’s a nice theme for a post isn’t it? And everyone loves a top 10 list. So, here’s mine.  The 10 albums I’m obsessed with on this month, this day, this year. The albums I have on heavy rotation right now and keep coming back to again and again. Ten, in a long list, of albums you should most definitely own. Listed in no particular order, they are:

Obsession: Tame Impala – “Solitude is Bliss (Mickey Moonlight Remix)”

Tame Impala“Solitude is Bliss (Mickey Moonlight Remix)”

“Solitude is Bliss.” Is it? Well, I’ll soon find out. But Tame Impala most definitely is. Blissfully good. So say hello to your new favorite band. They sure are mine anyway. I cannot get enough of their new album, Innerspeaker, due out June 8. The Aussie group is embarking on a US tour supporting MGMT. I’m still tracking for that San Francisco show.  Right now Santa Cruz is as close as they’ll get on May 29. Come on guys, you don’t have to be in Portland ’til June 1.  Come on up to SF already.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Check out this new video from Tame Impala’s forthcoming album, InnerSpeaker. I’ve been listening to their new album and I’m really, really digging it.  Really.  No, really. It’s like they’re channeling the psychedelic era of The Beatles. Color me obsessed. They just announced a US tour supporting MGMT in May/June. No San Fran or LA dates just yet, but reportedly they’re working on it.  If they don’t, I might cry. Either way, score another point for Australia.

Aussie Week: Tame Impala

Tame Impala – “Runway, Houses, City, Clouds

Well, hello boys.  Where have you been hiding? This 3 piece outfit from Perth, Australia has been music to my ears since hitting my inbox.  Their psychedelic grooves harken the hippie hey days of Haight Ashbury in the late 60s.  And it’s not much of a stretch to imagine this crew wandering barefoot in Golden Gate Park either. The look, the sound, it’s all so…Hipstamatic. Their second album, Innerspeaker, is due out on May 21 in Australia and June 8 internationally.  Dig it.
