“I Know What I Am”:

Boy, catching up on the mountains of email in my mailbox really paid off this weekend.  Namely in the discovery of this hot little London-based three piece calling themselves Band of Skulls and their debut album, Baby Darling Doll Face Honey.  It’s been on heavy rotation ever since.  Their sound smacks heavily of that stripped down garage rock sound, tinged with a little of that 70s inspired rock vibe I love so much.  And the vocal play between Russell Marsden (guitar & vocals), Emma Richardson (bass & vocals) definitely evoke images of not only the White Stripes but also Jack White’s new venture, Dead Weather, featuring The Kills’ vocalist Allison Mosshart.   Especially on tracks like ‘Death by Diamonds and Pearls‘, ‘I Know What I Am’ and ‘Blood’.

Luckily for all of us San Franciscans, Band of Skulls will be performing at this week’s The Rumble on June 3 at Harlot.  Oh, and did I mention it’s free?  Just RSVP here.

June Gloom

Sigh. It’s June 1, and like clockwork, the cold, damp fog has taken hold of San Francisco.  Time to pull out the winter clothes.  I always lament this time of year just a little.  Ten months out of the year I have no complaints about this town with it’s eternal sunny skies.  But June and July in San Francisco are just the worst in terms of weather.  I live in the sunniest part of town too, with some of the best views of the city. So when it’s foggy in my hood, you know it’s bad.

Here’s the view of the city from my hill this morning. I felt like renaming this Say Hi...track to “June Was White, July Was Grey”.  I will definitely feel better when the winter’s gone.

Video: Yeah Yeah Yeahs – “Heads Will Roll”

I have a serious girl crush on Karen O. and am in love with the costume designer, Christian Joy, that dresses her. So much so that I fashioned my own Karen O. knock off for Halloween this year (even though most people had no idea who the hell I was).  I hate to repeat anything, but after seeing her latest creation in this video, I’m tempted for round two.

The King at Amnesia Last Night in SF

King Khan and The Shrines threw a little party last night at Amnesia in San Francisco, curating an evening of 60s cover songs with the help of lots of Bay Area music talent like Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees.  At the end of the evening he give us a little taste of what’s in store for tonight’s performance at Great American Music Hall.  Here’s a glimpse of what’s to come.  Be there!
