I’ve been a long time fan of the trippy, atmospheric sounds of the Bay Area group Stripmall Architecture. They’ve got a Fever Ray, The Knife meets Lykke Li kind of sound going on. Sans the theatrics. “Feathersongs for Factory Girls, Part 2” EP will release on May 17 and they have shows scheduled at Cafe du Nord on May 14 and The Rickshaw Stop on June 19. In the meantime, check out this new video for “One of Three”.

SF Spotlight: Stripmall Architecture on LCD – “Drunk Girls”

Stripmall Architecture covering LCD Soundsystem’s “Drunk Girls”

“Radium Girls”

San Francisco’s Stripmall Architecture is a group I fell in love with the first time I laid ears on them. Their dreamy, downtempo beats hook you instantly. The duo turned foursome was created by founding members Ryan and Rebecca Coseboom of the late Halou. Reincarnated in their next musical life as Stripmall Architecture, the group has just released their latest EP, Feathersongs For Factory Girls (Part One), which is out now. The beauty of this release is that it was completely self -funded by their fans. Love that. “Radium Girls” is a track from the release in tune with their tempo. They also released a freebie remix of LCD Soundsystem’s “Drunk Girls” for shits and grins that was likely inspired by their recent visti to SF. Drunk Girls…Radium Girls…it’s all good.

Download the album now and look for them live July 17 at Milk Bar.

Once again the good folks at FutureSounds have lined up a great night of free music for this month’s The Rumble on Wednesday March 3 at Cafe du Nord, officially dubbed as the NoisePop hangover. Hangover indeed. But this month’s line up is well worth your attention, featuring two of my favorite local groups, Lilofee and Stripmall Architecture, as well as Athens-based shoegaze rockers Twin Tigers whose new album Gray Waves is getting lots of love.  Deservedly so. Don’t mis it.

RSVP at SonicLiving now.

Flour + Water = Mixtape

Flour + Water Mix

Good food, good wine, good friends, good music.  Do you need anything more than that?  You can get all that and then some this Thursday, October 8, at the hottest restaurant in San Francisco right now – the Mission district’s Flour + Water – where the OCMD will be curating an evening of strictly local music.

This unassuming neighborhood gem has earned the praise of The New York Times, WSJ, and our very own Michael Bauer. Even though the entire town is busting down the doors of this place, the owners remain decidedly laid-back and committed to preserving the hip, low-key neighborhood vibe. Fitting with that theme, I’m excited to share the local love by featuring some of the best up and coming bands San Francisco has to offer. To celebrate the occasion, the restaurant has set aside several coveted tables to bestow on a few lucky readers for this Thursday.  First four readers to email me at theocmd@gmail.com wins!

Here’s a taste of what’s to come. Enjoy the mix!
