Whoa. Sounds like I may need a place to bury my eardrums after listening to this latest track from the New York based noise rock outfit. Worship is their latest sonic assault set to release via Dead Oceans on June 26. “Dark, visceral, and explosive” indeed.

Stephen Paul Smoker – “Green City”

Artist: Stephen Paul Smoker
Album: “Ripe Fruit”
Homeland: Chicago
Release Date: March 20, 2012
Featured Track: “Green City”

Well hello, Chicago. It’s been a while since you’ve caught my ear. Where have you been for so long? Stephen Paul Smoker is a track I stumbled upon from a Chicago-based, six-piece psych-rock outfit who’ve just released their debut LP, Ripe Fruit. And just to make me all nostalgic for my long lost Chicago days, they’ll be playing a record release show April 27 at the Empty Bottle. (sniff)

Vivid Monk – “Wolf at The Window”

Artist: Vivid Monk
Hails From: Bath, UK
Release Date: February 12, 2012
Featured Track: “Wolf at The Window”

A nice SoundCloud discovery by this Brit pop group from the UK called Vivid Monk. A very retro sound a la The Smiths, Belle and Sebastian that’s pretty irresistible. Reminiscent of today’s Jeremy Jay, which is a good thing. Enjoy.

Electric Flower Group

Artist: Electric Flower Group
Album: EP II
Release Date: March 27, 2012
Featured Track: “Eclipsed”

What do you get when you combine the drummer of Secret Machines with the former touring guitarist for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs? Rock and roll bliss dubbed as Electric Flower Group. I’ve been a long time fan of Imaad Wasif and his solo efforts. His 2010 release of The Voidist is and epic album you should definitely own and his live guitar exorcisms are not to be missed. Now he’s teamed up with drummer Josh Garza to reinvent the rock and roll two piece. Part psychedelic, part pop, part East Indian hash house, their sound is a musical adventure. Their second album, entitled EP II, will release on March 27th via Narnack Records.

The Proper Ornaments – “Shining Bright”

Artist: The Proper Ornaments
AlbumThe Proper Ornaments
Hails From: UK
Featured Track: “Shining Bright”

I stumbled upon this great track in my SoundCloud feed this week and, unsurprisingly, found that it was the work of another UK collaboration. My Brit Pop proclivities run deep, you know. This duo from London featuring James Hoare (Veronica Falls) and Max Clapps make some  sweet music together when they get around to it. This, their debut album, was released late last year.
