Artist: A Place To Bury Strangers Album: Worship Release Date: June 26, 2012 Featured Track: “You Are The One”
Whoa. Sounds like I may need a place to bury my eardrums after listening to this latest track from the New York based noise rock outfit. Worship is their latest sonic assault set to release via Dead Oceans on June 26. “Dark, visceral, and explosive” indeed.
Reading the announcement that WOXY was exclusively previewing the Love and Rockets Tribute Album this week was like coming full circle for me. I grew up in Ohio and cut my teeth on WOXY (bam! The Future of Rock-n-Roll). And Love and Rockets was one of those bands they turned me on to, way back when in my formative years. So it’s with great satisfaction that this same station (to whom I hold somewhat accountable for my OCMD) brings these New Tales to Tell direct to my speakers -albeit in California not Ohio (thank god).
And judging by the line up of artists paying tribute, it appears as though Love and Rockets are getting their moment in the spotlight. This is a good thing too. I’m not sure how many more new bands I could take citing The Jesus and Mary Chain in their list of influences. The list of artists paying tribute include: THE FLAMING LIPS, BLACK FRANCIS, THE DANDY WARHOLS, MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN’S band PUSCIFER, A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS, FILM SCHOOL, and more.
The Love and Rockets Tribute Album exclusive airs on WOXY, Wed. July 1 @ 9pm, Thur. July 2 @ 6pm, Sat. July 4 @ 4pm, and Sun, July 5 @ Noon, and then on-demand through the WOXY website. The album, New Tale to Tell, a Tribute to Love and Rockets, will be released digitally July 28 and in stores August 18.
Artist: Peasant Album: On the Ground File Under: Indie Folk Recommended if You Like: Bon Iver, Iron & Wine, Elliott Smith Featured Track: Birds
You know how annoying it is when you diligently track new music from your favorite blogs, hear something you get excited about, then can’t find it because the album isn’t even released yet? Well, I’m sorry but I’m about to do that to you right now.
I just can’t help myself on this one though. Peasant’s, On the Ground, was a little gem sent to me from Paper Garden Records last month and I cannot stop listening to it. Unfortunately for you, it’s not available until January 27, 2009. But you can pre-order here now.
Peasant is the musical alter-ego of Damien DeRose from Doylestown, PA. And you can’t help but think Elliott Smith when you hear his beautiful lyrics and delicate acoustic arrangements float by. I’m completely obsessed with the song, ‘Birds‘.
Based upon his upcoming engagements to promote the album, it appears I’m not the only one obsessed. He just recorded studio sessions with Daytrotter (known for helping to launch emerging bands like Of Montreal, Vampire Weekend, Tokyo Police Club, Spoon, and A Place To Bury Strangers), and is scheduled to record live sessions on WOXY and LaundroMatinee as well. Oh, and let’s not forget his upcoming music placement on the new Showtime series “United States of Tara.”
