Album of the Week: Twin Tigers – “Gray Waves” [Album Giveaway!]

Artist: Twin Tigers
Album: Gray Waves
Release Date: March 2, 2010
For Fans Of: Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Jesus and Mary Chain, A Place to Bury Strangers
Featured Track: Sexless Love

Holy shit, this album is unreal. There are times when you hear a new band and just know they are going to be huge.  Athens-based, Twin Tigers is one of them. Their debut LP, Gray Waves, out today on Old Flame Records is an epic assault of psychedelic, shoegaze rock.  Jaw dropping good. The kinda stuff that’ll make you swoon. The kinda band that “could dismantle The Silversun Pickups from their perch.” The kinda sound that will keep you coming back for more. Get into this band is all I have left to say.

Need help?  Okay. I have a handful of albums to giveaway to the first readers to email theocmd@gmail.com and claim them.  Then head on out to The Rumble SF this Wednesday to hear them live…for free!  RSVP here. And if that doesn’t work, then I’m sorry. You’re a lost cause and need to seek help elsewhere.

Stuck in My Head: Portugal, The Man – “The Dead Dog”

Portugal, The Man “The Dead Dog”

Portugal, The Man has a new album coming out this week (digitally), March 2, called American Ghetto. It’s a tall order to follow on the success of The Satanic Satanist, but one listen to this track leads me to believe this one will be just as good as their last. Get the digital version here.

The Rumble SF: Lilofee, Twin Tigers & Stripmall Architecture

Lilofee“Lock and Key”

Twin Tigers “Everyday”

Stripmall Architecture“Version”

Once again the good folks at FutureSounds have lined up a great night of free music for this month’s The Rumble on Wednesday March 3 at Cafe du Nord, officially dubbed as the NoisePop hangover. Hangover indeed. But this month’s line up is well worth your attention, featuring two of my favorite local groups, Lilofee and Stripmall Architecture, as well as Athens-based shoegaze rockers Twin Tigers whose new album Gray Waves is getting lots of love.  Deservedly so. Don’t mis it.

RSVP at SonicLiving now.

Stuck In My Head: Lindstrom & Christabelle – “Lovesick”

Lindstrom & Christabelle“Lovesick”

I’ve been obsessing over this track from Norway’s Lindstrom & Christabelle’s new album, Real Life is No Cool. Which, by the way, has to be the best album title of 2010. I like to keep my eye on Lindstrom, Norway’s Prince of Disco. He’s quite prolific and always up to something cool. Usually I can take or leave most of what comes out of the electro pop genre but every now and then there’s a gem you just can’t resist and this track is one of them.

The Radio Dept. – “Heaven’s On Fire”

The Radio Dept – “Heaven’s on Fire

Sweden is at it again.  Stockholm’s The Radio Dept. is scheduled to release their first full length LP in four years, Clinging to a Scheme, on Labrador Records April 21. “Heaven’s on Fire” is the first single from the album. Enjoy.

Wild Beasts – “We’ve Still Got The Taste Dancing On Our Tongues”

The UK’s Wild Beasts both challenges and intrigues me.  I haven’t heard anything like it, which intrigues me.  And there’s something about listening to their music that’s pleasantly uncomfortable.  That challenges me. I can’t seem to tell if I like it or hate it, but find myself listening to it over and over again to determine the answer.  Hmm…effective.

SXSW Preview: Lawrence Arabia

Lawrence Arabia – “Apple Pie Bed”

Lawrence Arabia is the alter ego of New Zealander James Milne – a former member of bands like The Ruby Suns, The Brunettes and The Reduction Agents as well as a touring member of Okkervil River. James is stepping into the limelight with his debut album, Chant Darling, and is currently touring Europe in support of Beach House. He’s expected to unleash his pop magic to the US masses starting in Austin next month at SXSW. One to watch for sure.
