Stuck in My Head: New Mexico – “Chosen Ones”

New Mexico “Chosen Ones”

I have not stopped listening to this EP, Have You Met My Friend?, since it landed in my inbox. Fast, rough and dirty, it’s one of my favorites for 2010 for sure so make sure you pick it up. And this track in particular?  H.e.a.v.y. rotation. To the point where it’s become a morning ritual. Two cups of coffee and a shot of New Mexico and I’m out the door, ready to take on the world.

They’ll be hitting SF this winter and have a tentative date for January 26 at The Knockout. Yeah. Mark your calendars…get set…GO!

The Black Lips are not officially on tour but in the studio recording their next album with Mark Ronson, a Grammy award winning English DJ and producer who’s worked with the likes of Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse and Q-Tip. An interesting collaboration indeed. Will they ever sound the same? We could find out. Reportedly they might be debuting some new tunes at the show! I predict fans will be hanging from the rafters for this one.

The Rumble SF Brings Indie Music and Film to Cafe du Nord Tonight!

Sunset – “Moonlight

The White White Lights“Space Invaders

Dana Falconberry – “Nightingale

The monthly FutureSounds Rumble Tour that rolls through town every month has built a reputation of breaking hot new artists (think Band of Skulls). This October, The Rumble will trump all of that with a new venue location, Cafe du Nord, and a new concept – indie film!

As usual, the monthly Rumble tour is set to bring a stellar line up upcoming artists through San Francisco tonight Wednesday, October 6, featuring Austin, TX-based acts Sunset, The White White Lights, and Dana Falconberry. What’s new is that preceding the showcase you’ll get to see a sneak preview of the indie film, Echotone – a documentary film about the music culture of Austin, Texas that features the very bands in this month’s showcase line up. Documentary filmmaker, Nathan Christ, followed a range of indie rock bands over a two year period chronicling the indie subculture – from the bands to the venues and promoters to the city governments themselves. Wrap it all up and put a bow on it, I can’t think of a better night of audio/visual entertainment. Don’t miss it!

RSVP now for the free music portion of the event at SonicLiving.

RSVP here for discounted tickets to the Echotone film screening ($7 with RSVP/ $10 at door ) that starts at 7PM.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. – “Nothing But Our Love”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. – “Nothing But Our Love

I’m betting on Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. Why? Because I know how to pick a name. Ask my Dad. Being the daughter of a race horse breeder, I spent far too much time at the race track learning how to gamble at a tender age. Oh, the countless hours he spent trying to make me a shrewd and savvy horse gambler. Teaching me how to read the programs, analyze the stats, make a wager. Instead I would tune him out and study all the race horse names and their intended puns…B Sharp, Flurtini, Let’s Make Ideal, Minor de Best.  See, isn’t that so much more fun than crunching numbers and stats? I think so.

So I’m putting $5 on Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. to Show. Described as “Michigan’s answer to The Morning Benders”, I love their EP Horse Power with it’s Beach Boy-esque harmonies and bubbly beats. It’s pure feel good music. Plus I appreciate the duo’s ethos to become professional men of music and leisure. Let’s all support them in this quest, shall we? You can start by seeing them September 8 at The Rumble San Francisco. RSVP here.

In Love Again with Leopold

Leopold and His Fiction – “Broke

Not that I ever really fell out of love with Leopold and His Fiction.  It was more like a momentary distraction by shiny, new music objects.  Music is problematic that way.  Especially when you suffer from OCMD. Even if you’re happy with what you’ve got, you can’t help but look over your shoulder for something new and different. Well, thanks to The Bay Bridged and their fabulous Rock Make Fest yesterday, I’ve come back home to my roots and fallen head over heels in love again with Leopold and His Fiction and their sultry, vintage rock vibe. Emphasis on rock because man do these guys lay it down. They’re hotter than ever.  And I felt oh so complete leaving the festival yesterday with an earful of vintage rock and my new vintage dress and shades. Thanks for keeping me hip, Bay Bridged.

[SUNDAY] SF Rock Make Street Fest w/ Set Times

Featuring 100 arts and crafts vendors, three stages of music and entertainment filled with great local indie bands, and a beer garden with tasty brews….it’s an event not to be missed.  And did I mention it’s free?  Be there!
