The Rumble SF Tonight @ Cafe du Nord!

Rumspringa – “Queer Eyed Boy”

The Rumble SF is tonight at Cafe du Nord featuring Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt, LA’s Rumspringa and San Fran’s Billy & Dolly. At this point I don’t think we’re in need of any more hyperbole about the monthly Rumbles.  Why? Because it’s FutureSounds and they never let you down. Plus it’s free with an RSVP, for god’s sake. Just do it.

The Dig @ Bottom of the Hill Tonight!

ArtistThe Dig
Album“Electric Toys”
For Fans Of: The Strokes, The Walkmen
Featured Track: “You’re Already Gone”

This may be the first time you’ve heard of The Dig but it definitely won’t be the last. Mark my words, these guys are going to be huge.  The debut LP from the NY-based quartet is good, really good. One of my favorites for 2010 so far. Suffice it to say, I really dig The Dig. The similarities to other well-known NY bands like The Strokes and The Walkmen are obvious. They have a straightforward rock and roll sound with a pop sensibility.  And man can these guys play their instruments. Just take a look at the video a recent live session and see for yourself. Reportedly all grads from the Berklee School of Music, they clearly take their craft seriously, as do others. Check them out tonight at Bottom of the Hill!

Local Show: Ty Segall, Weekend, Terry Malts, Whirl @ Milk Bar

It’s hard to pass up a show with Ty Segall solo. It’s like going back to the place and time where you first fell in love. (sigh). So be sure to check out Epicsauce‘s great line up this Thursday at Milk Bar featuring a great local line up of need to know bands: Weekend, Ty Segall (solo), Terry Malts and Whirl. Some local-style, underground garage rock to make you swoon for sure.

The Rumble SF Tonight: AB & The Sea, What Laura Says, So Many Wizards

AB & The Sea“Bone Dry”

What Laura Says“Training”

So Many Wizards“Nico”

FutureSound’s monthly Rumble just keeps getting better and better. This month Cafe du Nord plays host to a future-star line up featuring San Francisco surf pop group, AB & The Sea; Phoenix-based psych rockers, What Laura Says; and LA-based dream rockers, So Many Wizards.  Another fine evening of music you can get for cheap or for free by RSVP’ing at SonicLiving.

Folkin’ Monday: Peggie Sue, todayokay, Pepper Rabbit

Peggie Sue – “Watchman”

Pepper Rabbit – “None Shall Sleep”

todayokay “HT Sandwich”

We all hate Mondays, but hopefully this trio of folky new artists set to hit Bottom of the Hill tonight in San Francisco will brighten your day. Peggie Sue is a UK-based trio on tour in the US to support their debut album “Fossils and Other Phantoms”, which was produced by members of Mumford and Sons. Preceding their headline act will be Silverlake’s Pepper Rabbit and San Francisco’s very own todayokay whose performance will mark their debut.  Folk out.

Sea of Bees – “Gnomes”

Sea of Bees“Marmalade”

Check out the haunting arrangements and beautiful melodies of Sea of Bees. Sea of Bees is comprised of Julie Ann Bee (aka. Jules), a virtual one woman band who released a debut EP last year and is quickly following it up with a full length album called, Songs of the Ravens. She’s already earned the favor of notable musicians like Jon Vanderslice and Jason Lytle.  With that kind of endorsement, you might want to check out her live performance this Sunday, June 6 at The Rite Spot in San Francisco and see for yourself what the ‘buzz’ is all about.

Chief – “Night and Day”

Chief“Night and Day”

Whoa…hey, check this number out from the Santa Monica 4-piece calling themselves Chief. Recently signed to Domino Records, the group will be releasing their debut album Modern Rituals on August 17.  Their sound has that kind of harmonic, melodic rock reminiscent of Band of Horses. They’ll be stopping by San Francisco’s Hotel Utah for a set on June 8th.  I think this is a show you might want to see.

Terrorbird is turning 4 and Epicsauce is hosting a fine birthday bash for them tonight Thursday, May 20 at Milk Bar in the Haight (across from Amoeba) featuring a great line up including San Francisco’s Man/ Miracle, The Splinters, Sacramento’s Sister Crayons and LA’s Baths.  For $5 you just can’t beat it.

On The Verge: The Hundred In The Hands – “Ghosts”

The Hundred In The Hands – “Ghosts

Think hazy, ethereal, dream-like experimental soundscapes.  Think dream pop. Think Cocteau Twins.  Now meet The Hundred in the Hands.  A boy/girl Brooklyn-based duo with electronic tendencies and French pop influences.  Their new EP ‘This Desert’ is due out May 18 on Warp Records and a debut LP expected sometime later this year. As an extra special bonus, the electronic veterans will be making their SF debut at San Francisco’s PopScene on June 3rd at 330 Ritch.
